This isn't working
Our deepest wounds
“I’m worried this won’t work.”
My client had a shaky voice and tears in their eyes. They went on.
“I’m worried our healing work isn’t the right path, that it won’t work. That I’m doing it wrong and we’re wasting time.”
We had only met twice, so we were early in the work.
I took a breath and replied.
“How do you feel when you say that?”
“Worried, anxious, and unsafe.”
“Do you recognize those feelings?”
“Yes.”
“Have you felt those feelings before?”
“Every day”
“Those are the feelings we’re here to work on.”
Whatever we’re working on will come up in the context of the work.
If we’re moving through perfectionism, then you will feel you’re not doing the work right.
If we’re working through feeling unsafe, then the healing work may feel unsafe.
If we’re working through a distrust of self, then you will doubt yourself in the work.
It’s important to use whatever feelings, doubts, or fears arise about the work as an inroad to the healing itself.
Everything that bubbles up, we pull like a thread until it takes us to our deepest wounds.
This is a great gift.
So long as we’re paying attention, the obstacle becomes the path.
Warmly,
Lucas
P.S.
If you’re ready to pull the thread and heal the wound, we can begin when it feels right.
You’re more than welcome here either way. I’m glad to share this space with you.
